After Monday’s successful screening of the Kenya-dominated Boston Marathon in Kapsabet, Nandi County, the Bank of Africa’s World Marathon Majors viewing parties shift to Iten in Elgeyo-Marakwet County for the screening of the London Marathon this Sunday (April 23).
Last Monday (April 17), Bank of Africa hosted a viewing party for elite athletes and athletics fans at the Tortoise Hotel in Kapsabet which hit fever pitch when Kenya completed a sweep of the men’s and women’s titles with Edna Kiplagat winning the women’s race in two hours, 21 minutes and 53 seconds with Geoffrey Kirui taking the men’s title in 2:09:37.
Bank of Africa’s Eldoret Branch Manager Jeremiah Kayago led the bank’s team in talking to the athletes about prudent banking before the live broadcast of the race.
Athletes who opened new accounts at the bank were also rewarded along with the top achievers in distance running this season, including 2016 Rome Marathon champion Amos Kipruto who won the Seoul Marathon last month.
Former world half marathon and cross country silver medallist Bedan Karoki and Olympic 5,000 metres champion Vivian Cheruiyot will be making their marathon debuts at Sunday’s London Marathon, running alongside fellow Kenyan greats including Amsterdam Marathon champion Daniel Wanjiru along with 2016 Chicago Marathon champions Abel Kirui and Florence Kiplagat, which will make for interesting viewing.
