Axe throwing competition

It may not be an Olympic event but axe throwing and log-sawing has become one of the most popular events in Maetaguse, Estonia. These men and daring women seem to enjoy what could as well pass as the Estonia champions with an edge! More than 100 best axe throwers from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia recently came together to prove their mettle in this friendly competition. The competition is divided into two divisions, the men’s and the ladies’, and the categories include axe throwing and log-sawing. The “fun” is to cut off a section of an eight to ten inch wide log using a six pound, 52 inch tuttle-toothed, two-man crosscut saw and in the fastest time possible! The task may not be as easy as you think as the contestants are randomly picked from the audience. But no doubt, these contestants could have won some medals were they to represent their countries at the olympics. (Text and photos by Xinhua)
