Bungoma county government Education department officials are on the spot over a missing Sh54 million for scholarships.
The officials are also accused of issuing bounced cheques to bright but needy students.
Appearing before MCAs, Education executive Beatrice Mayeku and chief officers Monica Fedha were unable to table documents showing the beneficiaries and how the money was spent together with the banks statements of the accounts.
They are also unable to account for Sh180 million meant for bursary for secondary school students. “I have no documents and I can’t trust those of my chief officer because I have not gone through them,’’ said Mayeku.
“It is my ruling that the officers go and bring the documents, but let them be warned that any effort to forge documents will only worsen the situation,” said Speaker Emmanuel Situma.
