Marsabit residents have been urged to be vigilant after reports of Rift Valley Fever outbreak in the neighbouring Wajir county.
At least five people have died after consuming infected meat in Wajir. Samples of the consumed meat that were tested by veterinary officers were found to have organisms casing the disease.
Speaking in Marsabit town yesterday, County Public Health director Adano Kochi urged residents of North Horr, Laisamis and Moyale sub-county border to be on the lookout to avoid the spread of the disease.
Marsabit deputy Governor Solomon Riwe Gubo said the county has formed a team to sensitise residents on dangers of the disease through local media outlets.
He also said the county had heightened surveillance adding that it is prepared to handle any arising case.“I urge residents to be keen on where they buy meat and milk from and not to eat any livestock products that have not been inspected,” he said.
