Easy for Upper Hill in Nairobi competition

While Nairobi Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) defending champions Upper Hill qualified for the quarters of the ongoing competitions with two easy wins in Pool A.

In their first match against Ushirika, Upper Hill were unstoppable as they ran riots on Ushirika’s touch line with the match ending 69-0. Samuel Otieno, Centric Onyango and Darron Ogola were some of the star try makers in the match.

The second match against Sunshine was no different as the match, played under heavy downpour, ended in at 43-0. Brian Otieno, Solomon Maleu, Calvin Kahindi Ian Ndengwa and Craig Ochieng made tries for the defending champions. “It was not easy playing in the rains but we have trained for both weathers and had to endure.

The players are in good spirits and we expect nothing short of the title,” said Upper Hill head coach Thomas Walgwe. In another pool, Muhuri topped after playing for a 66- 0 against Aquino’s.

Simon Gathii made two tries while victor Ayiro,Martin Mutiso, Ron Hillary, William Opaka making one try each. Boniface Waga, Kelvin Agwambo, Peter Daniel added to Aquinas’ woes as Martin Mutiso making six conversion while Daniel mokua made two. The second match for Muhuri against Komarock ended 63-0.

As Kelvin Agwambo, Dante Wallace, Tichque mwamba making the try list among others. For the final ranking after the preliminaries, Muhuri Muchiri finished first, Upper Hill came second, Dagoretti finished third while Ofafa Jericho was fourth. Lenana School, Nairobi School, Langata Boys and Moi Forces Academy (MFA) finished fifth to eighth respectively.

The quarterfinals to be played on today will see Muhuri Muchiri play MFA, Upper Hill take on Langata, Dagoretti play Nairobi School and Ofafa Jericho square out with Lenana School.

The semis are scheduled for later today with the winners facing off on Sunday for the single ticket to the nationals. In basketball girls holders Buru Buru were the better side as they won their match against St Theresa 54-08 (24-0, 16-0, 6-0, 8-8).

In another match Parklands Arya saw off Precious Blood 33- 04 in a one-sided encounter. In boys’ hockey regional champions Dr Ribeiro won their first match 3-0 against Ofafa Jericho while rivals Upper Hill made minced meat of Dagoretti in a one-sided affair that saw the former score 10 goals without a reply from their opponents.
