Security has been heightened in mosques and churches across the country during the Ramadhan period, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai said yesterday.
Although he did not raise the red flag on any terror threats, he cited past incidences.
“Al Shabaab has a history of striking during Ramadhan and emulating global jihadist groups’ modes of attack. In June 2014 during the hold month, 150 lives were lost to terror attacks in Lamu and Tana River counties,” said the IG.
In a statement Mutyambai said al Shabaab terror group has been known to target worshippers and crowded areas. He urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspect activities and persons to authorities.
