Transport on the Mai Mahiu-Narok road was temporarily paralysed after workers hired to construct the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) blocked it over alleged poor working conditions.
The more than 300 workers from Satellite Centre in Mai Mahiu, Naivasha vowed not to resume duty until the issue of their transportation was resolved. Tens of motorists using the road were affected before the striking workers agreed to meet government and the contractor representatives to resolve their differences.
The incident came barely a fortnight after two workers in the area died and three others were seriously injured after a section of the modern railway line collapsed. Naivasha sub-county commissioner Isaac Masinde confirmed the protest but added that the sticky issues are being addressed.
