New policies to boost housing sector

Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Aidah Munano has said the ministry is reviewing construction policies and regulations to capture aspects of modern technology.

The PS made the remarks during a press conference in Mombasa where she maintained that the government was keen to ensure the construction sector embraces modern technology to generate revenue.

“We want to have policies and regulations that can effectively regulate the construction sector,’’ she said. Munano added that most houses in urban areas do not meet the required standards.

She said due to the booming construction industry, demand is high on construction materials and technological skills thus resulting in gaps which has led to a number of failures.

“The continued growth of construction has increased demand on materials, technology and skills resulting in gaps in their use, and therefore a number of failures,” said Munano.
