The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has nominated two members to the mediation panel on the doctors’ strike.

Lawyers John Ohaga and Njeri Kariuki will represent LSK in the talks to have the doctors call off their strike as directed by the Court of Appeal Wednesday.

A three-judge bench directed LSK and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights to lead the mediation talks between the doctors and their employers—the State.

KNCHR is expected to name its mediators to allow the process start as early as today. The panel is expected to report back on the progress of the talks by Thursday.

Meanwhile, inter-religious group leaders welcomed the court decision that saw seven jailed doctors’ union officials released.

The Inter-Religious Council of Kenya also volunteered to “observe” the talks. “We are available and pleased to serve as observers.”
