In Kenya, cancer contributes to seven per cent of deaths per year. More than 30,000 new cases are reported each year according to the Kenya Network of Cancer Organisations. Both the poor and the privileged struggle to pay and treat cancer. Unfortunately, those affected are said to be younger than 70 years old. The common treatments are chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, which is inadequate in public hospitals. Treatment in private hospitals range between Sh5,000 and Sh10,000 per session.
