The solar photovoltaic (PV) system is rapidly becoming an inexpensive, low-carbon technology to harness renewable energy from the sun. Here are top solar generating countries according to online sources.
1. Germany: 38,250 megawatts
Germany’s 1.5 million PV installations provide a generation capacity of 40 gigawatts (GW). As solar generation only delivers 940 equivalent full-load hours of electricity per year, Germans high capacity currently covers 7.5 per cent of German electricity consumption, compared to 14 per cent for nuclear generation. But solar power has a particular advantage over centralised nuclear generation, in that it needs no long-distance transmission to serve local markets.
