Over the weekend, 254 was left stunned to learn of the news that the reigning Miss World Kenya Nyamira county, Mercy Mokeria, died. The 23-year-old law graduate passed on at North Kinangop Hospital, where she had been admitted two weeks ago.

Speaking to the media, her father, Josephat Momanyi, revealed that Mokeria had complained of muscle pains, but preliminary results failed to show the disease she was suffering from.

The Miss World Kenya franchise holder, Terry Mungai eulogized Mokeira saying, “I am saddened by the death of Mercy Mokeira.

I pass my condolences to her family and the entire Nyamira county. Mokeira was a very cheerful lady, and she did a good job in the fight against jigger infestation in different parts of the country.”

Also sharing her condolences was Miss World Kenya, Evelyne Njambi, saying, “Mercy Mokeira was my good friend. Her death has come as a shock to me.

Oh my God. May her soul rest in peace, and may God comfort her family.” Mid last year, the fallen beauty queen became a national sensation after she and her Siaya counterpart, Sharon Halima, took photos with inmates, who were deemed to be “more beautiful” than the two.
