Pressure continues to mount on Environment Cabinet secretary Keriako Tobiko and National Environmental Management Authority (Nema) to close down Kibos Sugar Company over pollution of River Kibos.
Muhoroni MP Onyango K’Oyoo yesterday threatened to mobilise his constituents to take unspecified action if the government fails to take action over the matter.
He said if Tobiko does not reign in on Nema for failing on its mandate of ensuring industries do not pollute their environment, then he should resign.
Addressing a news conference yesterday, K’Oyoo expressed concerns that the company is making the living conditions of his constituent’s unbearable.
“If Kibos Sugar wants to continue with its operations in the area it must adhere to the environmental requirements because if it cannot, then they will have to leave the area,” he said.
