Looking for employment in Kenya has never been easy, at least for most people. However, one can turn to their creative side and come up with a venture to make ends meet as Carolyne Andeyo did.
Despite having a profound educational background, she turned to making women’s purses and she has not looked back. Her craft did not require much capital, but she puts effort in collecting can tops from vendors.
“I started making the purses in 2012 when I discovered there was a niche for them in the local market,” she says. Having had experience in crafts, she had a relatively easy time getting into business and later learnt she could export her purses to grow her income.
“A tourist approached me and told me they could assist me get a good market abroad. I decided to take up to the idea and find a market in China,” she says. Her products go for Sh1,000 for the big purses and Sh200 for the small ones.
