SportPesa Premier League side Sony Sugar are eyeing a better campaign in the new season that kicks off on Saturday across the country, after struggling to stay afloat the previous season.
Head coach Patrick Odhiambo is positive and optimistic that his charges will not be relegation candidates again. The 2006 league champions host Robert Matano’s Tusker at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday in their opening match of the season.
“We want to finish next season in a better position than last year. That is our target at the moment,” said the coach who miraculously steered the cane millers from relegation zone to finish a ninth position finish at the end of the season.
Odhiambo, a former Chemelil and Agro-Chemical FC coach, said the team had signed six players and released seven and were ready for the new season.
Part of his new signings is former Gor Mahia winger Ronny Omino, who is keen to resuscitate his career at the Awendo side. Others are Robert Otema, Apollo Otieno, Patrick Ochieng, Kennedy Owino and goalkeeper John Njau from National Super League outfit, Nairobi Stima.
“The new signings have adapted to my style of play and philosophy. They have also gelled well with the rest of the team,” Odhiambo said.
