Archbishop Njenga’s burial set for Tuesday

The late Catholic Archbishop Emeritus John Njenga will be buried on Tuesday within the precincts of Holy Minor Family Basilica, Nairobi.

Archbishop Njenga becomes the first bishop to be buried within the Holy Family Basilica.

He will be interred in a crypt at the church in accordance with the long-standing traditions in the Catholic church.

His Eminence Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga was buried at St Austin`s Cemetery, Msongari, Nairobi, in accordance with his wish before his remains were exhumed and interred at the Resurrection Gardens, Karen, following the commencement of his beatification process.

Prior to Archbishop Njenga’s burial, there will be a vigil mass in honour of his life and times, at the Holy Family Basilica on Monday starting 5.15pm.

The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at the University of Nairobi grounds from 10 am. Archbishop Martin Kivuva of Mombasa announced the death of Archbishop Njenga on Sunday, who was receiving treatment at Mater  Hospital.  He died on Sunday after a short illness, aged 90.
