Nairobi County Assembly members allied to ODM party are expected to meet their party leader Raila Odinga today to iron out leadership wrangles at the Assembly.
The wrangles emerged mid last month after ODM chairman John Mbadi wrote to the acting Count Assembly Speaker Mwaura Chege informing him that the party had made changes to its leadership at the Assembly.
He said the decision was after learning that the Minority Leader Elias Okumu and Minority Whip Peter Imwatok were not supporting the party’s agenda at the Assembly adding that the two had defied calls not to make any changes to committee members at the Assembly.
The two were replaced by Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi and his Lower Savannah counterpart Nicholas Ouma.
The changes were, however, dismissed by ODM executive director Oduor Ong’wen, who also wrote to Chege disowning Mbadi’s letter.
However, Chege ignored Mbadi’s letter on grounds that the duo’s election in their positions at the Assembly was a negotiated National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition and not ODM as a party. In his communication to the Assembly, Chege was categorical that Mbadi’s directive was invalid.
