A prison warder narrowly escaped death on Friday night after he was allegedly assaulted by his seniors at the Malindi GK Prison.
Constable Peter Ndirangu (below), who reportedly differed with the two seniors, was first hit with the butt of a pistol and later run over by a police land cruiser in the ensuing scuffle.
Speaking from Malindi sub-county hospital where he is admitted, the officer claimed a long-standing grudge with his attackers, with one of them has threatened to “slash him to pieces and put the remains in a sack before surrendering to the police”.
Coast regional Prison Commandant James Ngaira said they had started investigations to establish the cause of the assault, adding that action will be taken against the officers involved.
“I am aware there is an officer who was assaulted but police have launched investigations and action will be taken quickly against those involved,” he said.
Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi said he was still gathering information about the matter. Unconfirmed reports indicate that junior prison wardens have gone on a go-slow protesting rampant injustices by seniors.
