Suspected al Shabaab insurgents killed two non-local teachers at Arabia Boys Secondary School in Mandera East yesterday morning in a renewed wave of profiled attacks in the region.
The militants stormed the school at 1am and overpowered four Kenya Police Reservists manning the gate before staging a siege at the quarters where the teachers were sleeping.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said the attackers shot indiscriminately and set the staff quarters on fire. Two newly-recruited tutors were killed while two others escaped. However, no student was injured.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the government is committed to providing security to all Kenyans including pupils and students preparing to sit for national exams.
The CS has summoned security commanders on Monday next week for a meeting at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete to deliberate rampant security lapses in the region.
