Property worth millions of shillings was yesterday destroyed after fire gutted down Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) factory store in Athi River, Machakos county.
The fire reduced corned beef packaging materials, chillers and refrigeration machines to shells. The fire is suspected to have been caused by power fault but police have launched investigations to ascertain the cause. It took both Mavoko and Kajiado firefighters more than three hours to contain the fire.
KMC managing commissioner Joseph Learamo said the fire destroyed expensive corn beef packaging materials and some attic machines. “For now, we cannot quantify the value of the property destroyed but its worth millions of shillings. This was our major packaging store. We are yet to establish the cause of fire but investigations have started,” he said.
