Bookish People, a book club, recently played host to Peter Kimani, one of Kenya’s leading writers and poets to discuss his new book — Dance of the Jakaranda.
The Meet-the-Author/Book Discussion event, which went down at Kenya National Theatre, brought together book lovers, aspiring and seasoned writers.
The event was his first since the launch of the book in March last year. Dance of the Jakaranda is a historical fiction set around the building of the railway that led to the existence of a territory called Kenya.
It re-imagines the rise and fall of colonialism in Kenya through the eyes of three characters, Babu, Rajan and the colonial administrator Ian McDonald. The book recently made it to the New York Times Notable Books of 2017.
