A French warship on a counter terrorism and piracy mission in the Indian Ocean has docked at the port of Mombasa. The vessel, Nivose F732 arrived yesterday morning and was received by the French honorary consul Mohammed Ramazani.

The warship is part of the “Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151)” deployed in the northwestern Indian Ocean within the framework of international anti-piracy efforts.

The Naval ship has been in Kenya before but its occupants are in the country for the first time. “We also try to fight mainly against illegal traffics in the Indian Ocean,” said Captain Pierre Lucas.

He, however, said the mission is also focusing on countering other criminal activities such as smuggling and any other activity that could pose any potential risk to maritime industry.

“We have come to Mombasa for logistics activities which includes replenishing our food and oil stock. We have also come for tourism activities which will involve getting to know more about Mombasa city and enjoy ourselves,” added Captain Lucas.
