Youth Affairs Principal secretary Lillian Mbogo-Omollo has been taken back to remand at Lang’ata Women’s Prison after investigations found her to be in good health.

Omollo had been admitted at  the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) private wing for 15 days after reportedly falling ill.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took Omollo back to remand after an independent medical examination conducted by the DIC  found the PS in sound condition.

A medical report, signed by consultant physician Stanley Ngare and presented in court on Thursday last week noted that Omollo was not in good shape to attend court proceedings.

The probe came after reports emerged that Omollo, who is among suspects in the Sh8 billion NYS scam, was being accorded VIP treatment at the hospital.

Sources at Mazingira House told People Daily that DCI boss George Kinoti saw her continued stay at KNH as setting bad precedence for big shots who, are being targeted in anti-graft fight.

Acting KNH chief executive Thomas Mutie confirmed her release after her condition “improved”. “PS Lillian Omolo was discharged at 5.30pm (Tuesday). We released her after her condition improved. Had she been still unwell, we would not have discharged her since it is against normal medical practice,” he said.

Omollo has been discharged from hospital even as bid  by suspects to be allowed bail  hit a snag. Verdict is set for Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, banks accounts of Omollo’s partner, senior finance officer in the Public Service ministry Bernard Masiga Ayienga, and former radio host Angela Angwenyi Nyarangi were frozen.

In a new sweep to prevent movement of the alleged stolen funds, detectives froze over 115 accounts in 14 banks and saccos of those associated with NYS suspects, including those belonging to Omollo one with KCB and two at Equity Bank.
