Chavakali High School began their campaign on a high note after beating Bugina Secondary 1-0 in the Sabatia Sub- County Secondary schools tough football match played on the Friends School Wangulu Grounds in Vihiga County Friday
Hard-fighting newcomers Bugina proved tough throughout the first half with long on target balls that gave the defending champions backline hard time to deal with.
Hillary Muleri charges Chavakali looked hungrier seeking an early goal after Ali Bashee beat Bugina’s offside trap but his close range effort hit the woodwork before being cleared out of danger in the sixth minute of the match.
Bugina’s winger John Nandwa raced on the right side beating two players before laying in a lovely defence splitting pass that found Micheal Mwika whose shot was blocked by vigilant Chavakali shot stopper Micheal Bulinda.
Chavakali had to fight harder in the second half for an opener against hard tackling Bugina, with Lawrence Luvanda and winger Steward Omondi raiding Bukina’s defence breaking deadlock in 53rd minute from a close range finish by Steward Omondi whose score settled the tie.
In girls’ category defending champions Hombala was also stunned by little known Bugina by holding them to 0-0 draw in Group A match that was played in Vokoli.
The winner will join the battle other teams from other sub counties that comprises Emuhaya, Sabatia, Vihiga, and Hamisi in Kaimosi next week for county championship.
