Rampant incest forces Busia girls to flee homes

Scores of girls in Busia county have been forced to flee their homes due to rampant incest cases, Rural Education and Economic Enhancement Programme (REEP) Mary Makokha has said.

Many of the victims were reportedly coerced into relationships by their relatives are school girls who end up dropping out of school, she added.

Speaking to the media in her office at Butula sub-county headquarters, Makokha said cases of fathers defiling their daughters are high but are rarely reported.

Others, she said, are targeting stepdaughters as a condition to get any form of assistance including payment of school fees.
