Nine fixtures have been lined up for this weekend in the second-tier National Super League with focus trained on the top three sides, Western Stima, KCB and Ushuru.
As action enters round 18, today sees Camp Toyoyo host a double header as Afraha Stadium and Mbaraki Sports Club also play host to two other matches.
Leaders Western Stima whose pace has slowed down in recent weeks will have an early noon kick-off against Talanta as they bid to bounce back to winning ways. Richard Makumbi’s men now on 35 points are keen to get full points after dropping five points in from back-to-back fixtures in a fortnight.
Their match against 12th-placed Talanta therefore becomes a focal point even as the NSL approaches mid-season. Abdalla Juma’s Talanta are 14 points adrift and on paper would look like underdogs against the immediate former Kenyan Premier League outfit.
The Communications Authority of Kenya-sponsored team have this season suffered a string of inconsistent displays including a 1-0 recent loss to lowly Administration Police. On a good day, however, FC Talanta can pose problems thus the visitors must be well prepared.
On Saturday, another heavyweight tussle in the shape of KCB and Nairobi Stima takes place at Karuturi Grounds in Naivasha. Both teams are buoyed by their recent wins against formidable opponents to keep them firmly in the chase.
The bankers under John Kamau are enjoying some resurgence of sorts after posting six points on the trot and are only five points adrift the table toppers with a match in hand. Stima who are fourth on the log with 28 points will most likely unleash their top marksman Stephen Owusu in a turf they are yet to lose at in this campaign.
