Table report on Maseno border row, NCIC urged

Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch has blamed National Cohesion and Integration Commision (NCIC) for failing to release a report on Maseno boundary dispute pitting Kisumu and Vihiga counties.

Addressing residents during the burial of prominent Maseno businessman Richard Osir at Nyawita village, the lawmaker said NCIC has not yet tabled its findings after being given a report on the dispute by National Assembly Legal and Justice Affairs committee more than a year ago.

“ I want to assure Kisumu and Vihiga residents that the boundary issue will be resolved peacefully and nobody will be displaced. We want to get a permanent solution to the problem is,” said Aluoch (pictured).

He said most counties are faced with boundary disputes and a legal framework should be put in place to resolve them pointing out that even Kakamega has boundary issues at Matunda, Moi’s Bridge and Turbo that are yet to be resolved.

The border conflict erupted three years ago after former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga accused Kisumu county of illegally collecting taxes from Maseno Town which he said was within his county.

Luanda MP Chris Omulele  appealed for calm and  urged leaders not to politicise the issue.

We have lived in peace and continue to do businesses, inter-marry and even share cultures with our neighbours. Let politicians not divide us,” he said.
