Education Cabinet secretary Amina Mohamed has directed county directors of education to ensure no extra levies are changed in schools under their areas of jurisdiction.
She said some rogue head teachers and principals of schools are still charging extra levies contrary to the ministry’s directive. She warned that those found culpable and education officers who condone it will be disciplined.
Amina challenged parents to report head teachers who were charging the illegal levies. “Make sure that any money demanded by head teachers is receipted so that we can deal with this monster of corruption that has engulfed the Kenyan society,” she said.
In a speech read on her behalf by Ministry of Education Chief Administrative Secretary Simon Kachapin during the official opening of Magura Secondary School in Nyamira county, Amina said the ministry has released enough funds to all institutions in the country and asked the management to use them wisely.
