Jack Wilshere was not going to let anything get in the way of him missing the birth of his latest child – not even Arsenal’s trip to play Leicester on Wednesday.
The England midfielder sat out the Premier League tie to be bedside with his partner during a lengthy labour but Wilshere was ecstatic on Thursday at the birth of baby daughter Siena. Wilshere already has one son and one daughter – Archie and Delilah – to his previous partner but having announced on Christmas day he would be a dad for the third time, Siena is the first child with wife Adriani Michael.
Writing on his Instagram page, Wilshere said: ‘Siena, my princess, you don’t even know how loved you are. Thank you for our beautiful baby girl, we are blessed, I can’t wait for you to meet your brother and sister.
‘Unfortunately the Mrs didn’t like the name Arsena…thank you for the nice messages.’
Wilshere married his long-term partner in June last year before they quickly looked to add to the family.
The 25-year-old is expecting a busy end to the campaign – not least with a new addition to the family – with Wilshere still harbouring hopes of selection to go to the World Cup with England.
The Arsenal midfielder is set to be named in England’s provisional 35-man squad for the tournament, while Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate is also considering a call-up for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Wilshere’s hopes of going to the World Cup seemed over following the last international break after he suffered a knee injury that forced him to pull out of the squad to face Holland and Italy, raising further doubts over his fitness.
But Wilshere’s performance levels have continued to soar during recent weeks and Southgate is ready to name him in his extended squad, to be submitted to FIFA by Monday.
