Leaders Western Stima face arch rivals Nairobi Stima Sunday in a derby likely to go either way, at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
This fixture promises fireworks between the two sides currently separated by 10 points in the National Super League log.
Robert Mukubi’s table toppers will be hoping to improve their 2-2 draw against Coast Stima last Sunday thus look up to the services of lethal striker John Mwita.
On the other end, Nairobi Stima who are coached by former Harambee Stars defender Ibrahim Shikanda, will be keen to close in on the top three with a match in hand.
Shikanda will be without the services of league top scorer Stephen Owusu who has found the back of the net nine times, as he is still trying to renew his work permit, but Job Omune is an able replacement after he notched a hat-trick in their 5-1 drubbing against Administration Police last weekend. Speaking to Wikendi on phone, Shikanda expressed optimism with their preparations ahead of the clash.
“The mood is good in our camp and my players are ready for this match. Obviously derbies are tough but we have the right personnel and tactics to face our opponents. I will be missing services of crucial players like Arun Mohammed and Cain Okeyo through injury but we have cover,” he said.
Meanwhile at Camp Toyoyo today, third placed KCB who are on 27 points face a tricky encounter against Coast Stima. The Bankers have endured some torrid moments lately but were buoyed by their slim 1-0 win over Green Commandoes last weekend at Bukhungu Stadium.
John Kamau’s charges must now step on the gas and avoid lethargy even as the mid-season break approaches. As for the 13th placed Coastal based outfit, they will pose so many questions against a porous back line of KCB that has struggled. At Ruaraka Grounds, Kibera Black Stars face Kangemi Allstars.
