Don’t get your knickers in a twist — this is a spoiler free review. For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of a decade-long march, starting with the introduction of the only Stark anyone cares about in Iron Man (2008).
It doesn’t just assemble Earth’s mightiest heroes, it brings together the guardians of the galaxy; Iron Man, Thor, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Black Panther…and Thanos, who now must be ranked among the best villains of the MCU alongside Tom Hiddleston’s lovable potrayal of Loki and Killmonger. It’s nearly impossible for a movie with a decade of hype to live up to expectations, but Infinity War delivers in every way.
It hits the ground running with an intensity that manages to put itself into the same arena as Mad Max: Fury Road. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo do an excellent job of making sure each character gets their due, bringing nearly all of their heroes together for one epic mash up the likes of which cinema has never been seen before.
That each of these heroes’ defining characteristics remain fully developed in an epic story that takes place across multiple planets and with an ensemble that numbers in the dozens is perhaps the most satisfying aspect. RATING: 10/10.
