Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has backed his Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua’s bid for the presidency in 2022.

Kibwana, who hosted Mutua for a fundraiser in Makindu, said the Wiper Democratic Movement leadership had agreed to lift political barriers against Mutua who is the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader.

“Mutua is hunting and Kalonzo is also hunting. And we know hunters converge at some point. We have said that the two should proceed with their hunting mission,” said Kibwana.

“It is not for us to discourage budding leaders to shelve their ambitions because it is possible for them to eventually succeed. As the party chairman of Wiper, I have held talks with Kalonzo and resolved to end political conflicts.”

There has been an open political rivalry and between the former vice president and the Machakos governor, after Matua fell out with Kalonzo and went ahead to form his political outfit.

Their differences escalated in the run-up to last year’s election where the Wiper party leader backed Mutua’s rival, former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, to run for the governor’s seat.

During Saturday’s event, Mutua and Kibwana staged a “political handshake” and pledged to work together for the economic and political good of the region.
