A group of Rift Valley youths have condemned an incident in which Deputy President William Ruto was blocked from meeting retired President Daniel Moi at his Kabarak home on Thursday.
Led by Kerio Youths Association chairman Joel Kimaiyo, the youths said the manner in which Ruto and his team were treated was embarrassing to the person of the Deputy President’s status, warning that the failed visit would not be taken lightly by the community.
They said the incident has demonstrated that Ruto has no problem with Moi. “We know there are attempts by some people to embarrass the Deputy President.
But I want to say that their attempts will fail. The Kalenjin masses will definitely not be happy with this abomination of chasing a visitor from a homestead,” he said.
He called on the Kalenjin elders to move with speed to investigate the circumstances under which Ruto failed to meet the ailing former Head of State “to ward off curses that may follow this sacrilegious incident.”
“Whoever planned this ugly incident must definitely be a complete stranger to Kalenjin culture and traditions. It is the stuff, which attracts the wrath of the gods to the offending family,” he said.
