Red Cross calls for Kshs.500m flood assistance aid

The Kenya Red Cross says at least 112 people have been killed and 19,000 livestock swept away by floods due the ongoing heavy rains pounding several parts of the country.

According to the aid agency over 148,000 households in 32 counties have been displaced with at least 89,000 families requiring emergency assistance following the effects of the heavy rains.

The humanitarian agency has effectively send out an appeal for 500million shillings to support families marooned by floods in inaccessible areas amid fears of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.
