The Mutindwa railway crossing is a tragedy waiting to happen after two people escaped death narrowly when their saloon car was stuck at the level crossing.
A passenger train headed to town from Dandora during the 7am accident rammed into the car pushing it 10 metres away before it stopped.
Witnesses said the car got stuck on the rail tracks as the driver attempted to cross over to Sonko Road prompting people to start pushing it to avoid an accident but it was too late to save the car.
The rains have eroded tarmac around the rail creating depressions that make it difficult for cars to cross smoothly. During heavy rains, the spot becomes impassable as water collects there, making it impossible to cross.
The stretch is, however, popular for vehicles trying to evade traffic on Jogoo Road hence attracting more traffic into Buruburu. This is the second time an accident has happened at the level crossing.
Twelve people died at the same spot on October 30, 2013 after a Dandora-bound train hit a 33-seater Umoinner bus that was heading to the city from Umoja, which also hit a private saloon car, injuring occupants.
