Eleven suspects, among them a chief were yesterday arraigned in Kisii High Court charged with the murder of Pastor Esther Bochaberi Oyugi.
The suspects; Vincent Maobe Osoro, Fredric Nyambati Nyaruri, James Mogita Mogambi, Edwin Mayienda alias Nyangaresi, Edward Onyango Makori, Benson Machuka, Peter Nyamarere, Joseph Moire Onduko alias Atuti, Reuben Onduso Ongeri, Christopher Oyugi and Robert Orwaru appeared before Justice Joseph Karanja.
They were accused of committing the offence on March 11 at Bokeire village, Bonchari constituency, Kisii county. They pleaded not guilty and were each released on a Sh500,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount.
However, two suspects, Makori and Mayienda, told the court that although they did not kill the pastor, who was an Apostle at Ebenezer Gospel Misssion, they witnessed her killing.
The case will be heard on June 13. During the burial of Bochaberi, 60, last week, leaders accused police officers at Gesonso police station of failing to protect the slain pastor and urged the government to transfer them.
Bomorenda Ward Rep John Ombati told mourners that the deceased had reported at the station that her piece of land was being grabbed and had received threats but the officers allegedly detained and freed her without recording a statement.
