Researchers find traces of polio virus in Eastleigh, Nairobi

Hopes of getting Kenya declared polio free by the World Health Organisation this year have been dashed after a rare strand of polio was discovered in  sewage samples from Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate.

And now to avert an imminent outbreak  in the country the government  is planning to immunize over 2 million children under the age of 5 from 12 counties  considered high-risk including Nairobi.

It is believed the virus was imported from the neighbouring Somalia which is still grappling with  polio.
