Weatherman issues alert over heavy rains in the Coastal region

The government has began evacuating families marooned by floods in the downstream areas of the Tana River even as the meteorological department issued a fresh alert warning of intensified rains in the North and South Coast regions over the weekend through to next week.

In the latest advisory, the weatherman has warned that all counties along the coastal strip including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and Tana River will receive heavy rains of upto 40 milimetres which are likely to cause flooding.

Residents of the affected areas have now been warned to be on the look out for flash floods and avoid walking or driving through fast moving waters with fishermen advised to avoid the ocean due to storm surges along the coast.
