Former Commonwealth Games 5,000m silver medallist Janet Kisa and upcoming Nancy Jelagat (pictured) will be on the start list at the Fifth leg of Athletics Kenya (AK) Track and Field Championships series this weekend at Mumias Complex, Kakamega.
After a successful Eldoret weekend meet athletes continue the chase for national trails ahead of Africa Senior Athletics Championships to be held in Assaba, Nigeria slated for August 1-5. Africa cross country silver medallist Kisa said she will be focusing on competing in 5,000m. “Am going to do my best.
Also am going to gauge my speed now that I have been out of competiton for some time,” said Kisa, the Africa championships 5,000m bronze medallists.
After her maiden win during Eldoret meet last weekend at the University of Eldoret (UOE) Grounds, Jelagat, wants to extend her winning formula to Kakamega in the two-day event that kicks off today and tomorrow.
Iten-based Jelagat, wants to continue her winning style and make to the national trials and also make cut to the national team. “It is my first win in a such race which has motivated me to compete in Kakamega ahead of national trials,” said Jelagat.
AK western region secretary Homer Mugalitsi disclosed that top athletes will be turning up for track and field events. “As we speak now, some Ugandan athletes have confirmed competing in our event.
They will spice up the championships, with this event attracting world renown runners and this year, there will be no difference as many will be using this meeting ahead of Diamond Leagues,” said Mugalitsi.
