In a rare show of unity, the Nairobi Business Community yesterday met Opposition leader Raila Odinga and promised to rally behind him in the quest to unite Kenyans.

Led by chairman Wilfred Kamau, the business community leaders termed Raila a statesman having shelved his personal interests for those of the country. “Raila has proved to be a true leader.

We are glad that he has finally agreed to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta to push forward the country’s development agenda,” Kamau told journalists after leaving the National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Capitol Hill office where they had paid him a courtesy call.

They promised to extend the unity gesture to other counties. Gender parity The business community also used the opportunity to urge Nairobi City County Governor Mike Sonko to consider gender parity as he plans to replace his deputy Polycarp Igathe who resigned early last month.

Kamau said they had fronted Agnes Kagure Kariuki’s name to the governor for consideration. She is a Nairobi-based businesswoman.
