NSSF won’t pay Sh1b contractual claim, says CEO

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) will not pay the Sh1.89 billion estimated contractual claim presented by its contractor in respect to the construction of the Fund’s Hazina Trade Centre in Nairobi.

NSSF Acting Managing Trustee/Chief executive  Anthony Omerikwa said the fund has not paid any claim and has sought the services of the State Department for Public Works for review, verification and guidance on the claim.

China Jiangxi International is claiming the payment following the stoppage of the construction of the Hazina Trade Centre expansion works following a dispute with the then NSSF anchor tenant Nakumatt Holdings.

The contractor had presented a claim amounting to Sh6.9 billion that was revised downward by NSSF’s consultants to Sh1.89 billion which is now being further reviewed and verified by the State Department for Public Works.
