The government will not extend the time given for registration of students through the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).
Director in charge of Special Needs Education in the Ministry of Education, Maria Cherono, said pupils and students in primary and secondary schools respectively must be registered by March 30.
Speaking in Kigumo, Cherono said the data is required to help the government plan for allocation of funds in the sector. She said the registration was pushed from February to give parents enough time to acquire birth certificates which were required for the process.
“We have no plan to extend the deadline and we expect compliance from all schools,” added Cherono.
She said so far, 6.6 million children had been registered and their unique personal identifier numbers are being processed.
Earlier, Kigumo MP Wangari Mwaniki had requested that the registration deadline be extended.
