The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has opposed a parliamentary committee’s bid to vet Justice Mohamed Warsame for his appointment to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The development comes just a day after JSC opposed Warsame’s vetting, saying the judge does not need Parliament’s approval. The commission advised him not to appear before the National Assembly’s Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs for vetting.
And yesterday, LSK president Isaac Okero said the move by the House committee to advertise for submission of memoranda for the intended vetting of Justice Warsame is untenable and a violation of the constitution. LSK claims the committee lacks legal mandate to determine the judge’s suitability.
Okero said LSK would not permit the vetting.
