Eight matches will be played Saturday at various grounds across the Nairobi County as the eagerly anticipated Super 8 Premier League kicks-off. Champions Kawangware United under the tutelage of former Nairobi City Stars marksman Francis Thairu begin their title defence against their estate neighbours Ngando Youth Association (NYSA) at Ngong Posta Ground from 3pm.
Despite Kawangware bagging the much-coveted trophy after collecting 66 points from 30 competitive matches a win will not come easy as their opponents closely trailed them in last year’s edition amassing 60 points and settled for third spot.
Though Thairu is confident of his team’s shape and fitness he acknowledged the huge pressure of retaining the trophy this season. “I am aware of all the teams plan to try and dethrone us from the top and snatch the trophy from us.
My plan this season is to try my level best to combine my experience and the team’s hard-work to ensure my team preserves the trophy. We expect nothing short of a win in our first clash against NYSA,” noted Thairu.
Super 8 Divison one winners Makadara J.L.S.A will open their top-tier campaign by welcoming Metro Sports FC at their Hamza home grounds along Jogoo Road from 3pm New kids on the block Rongai All Stars who earned a promotion to top-tier after finishing second division play against visitors Melta Kabiria at Nakeel grounds in Rongai from 3pm.
