New Coast Regional Coordinator Bernard Leparmarai has asked security agents to devise new strategies and intensify their fight against crime and drugs in the wake of return of criminal gangs.

He said trafficking of narcotic drugs and sale of illicit brews is on the rise and asked police to stop the menace. “We must get serious with our work and ensure that we arrest and bring to book those engaged in the illicit trade that is turning the youth into zombies,” he said.

The regional security chief, who was addressing security heads drawn from across Mombasa county in his office, also asked police to decisively deal with criminal gangs which have been terrorising Mombasa residents.

The meeting comes in the wake of resurgent attacks by the dreaded machete-wielding gang of Wakali Kwanza. Two people have been hacked by suspected members of the gang in the past few days. Leparmarai (pictured) vowed to decisively deal with both the criminal groups and drug addiction menace in the region.
