Internationally recognised scholar Prof Alloys Tumbo-Oeri was yesterday eulogised as one of the most established academicians in the country. Leaders from across the political divide mourned Oeri, who died aged 70 from a suspected heart attack as a devout scholar who has left a significant mark in the country’s academic field.
Speaking during the requiem mass at Consolata Shrine in Nairobi yesterday, Chief Justice David Maraga described the deceased as a man who stood for what he believed in.
As a lecturer, he taught Deputy President William Ruto and MPs Naomi Shaban (Taveta), Eseli Simiyu (Kimilili), Robert Pukose (Endebess) and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale. Prof Tumbo served as principal of the Biological and Physical Sciences College at the University of Nairobi between 1997 and 2002.
