Jalaram Academy dominated the Kisumu County swimming gala to emerge champions at Aga Khan Gymnasium over the weekend. The Kisumu-based bigwigs garnered 89 points to brush off closest rivals and last year’s champions Maseno School who garnered 84 points.
Kisumu senior (50 points), Braeburn International (45 points) scooped third and fourth positions in that order as fifth and sixth place went to Chemelil Academy (13 points) and Ngere High from Kisumu. Jalaram’s John Kennedy breast the tape in 5:23 minutes to emerge the overall winner of the 200m individual category boys.
Joseph Okal of Kisumu Academy emerged best overall in the 50m in the junior individual in 30:87 seconds followed by Joseph Onyango from Breburn who came second in 33:91 seconds as Maseno’s James Nyaburi completed podium after clocking 42:41 seconds to book a slot in the Lake Region swimming gala due next week.
In breaststroke open 100m, it was a Maseno affair as Vincent Okumu and Willis Odiwuor took first and second in 42:97 seconds and 44:42 seconds respectively while Benjamin Mbele of Kisumu Senior and Charles Musanya of Maseno took the first two positions in the boys’ 50m after clocking 53:38 and 54:88 seconds respectively.
Joseph Okal from Kisumu Senior Academy produced a moment of brilliance as he won the 4x50m individual medley in a time of 3:04:03 seconds while Fred Okoth from Maseno was second on 3:25:03 seconds followed by John Kennedy from Jalaram (3:48 seconds).
