Kisii County Secondary School Games handball girls defending champions Kegati are through to the finals slated for Saturday at Kisii School after beating last year’s losing finalist Omobera 10-9 in a tightly contested semi-final at the school.
Goalie Ephy Beta had tough times warding off marauding strikers from Omobera but wingers Shila Wekesa and Macellah Gesare were up to the task supplying invaluable passes to high-flying Silvia Kerubo who was in her own class as she scored four goals to guide her side into the finals where they will come face to face with first rising Chironge Secondary who knocked out Bombaba Secondary 10-7 in the other scintillating semi-final.
Speaking after the match, top scorer Sylvia Kerubo expressed excitement for making it to the finals and vowed never to stop there until she guides her team great heights. “I’m very excited with how I and the whole team played.
It was a tough match but we showed character and resilience to prevail. Our goal is to win regionals and go to nationals,” said Kerubo after Kegati reached semis in regionals last year. In boys’ category, Nyamagwa SDA sailed through to the finals after beating Itare Secondary 11-7.
This was after they had made a strong statement by knocking out defending champions Itiero Boys in the quarterfinals and stand a chance to be crowned 2018 champions in Kisii County. – GIBO ZACHARY
