AHF calls for more attention to women

Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has called on stakeholders to ensure that women have unimpeded access to HIV testing kits, prevention and treatment services to reduce the growing number of new infections.

Speaking yesterday ahead of today’s International Women’s Day, AHF Kenya Director Dr Samuel Kinyanjui said the deadly disease remains one of the leading causes of death among young women and girls.

Kinyanjui cited fear of intimidation and stigma as a barrier for women to access reproductive health services, including HIV treatment, saying that the problem starts from community clinics all the way to the national health programs.

“As we celebrate women this year, it is important to note that women must be at the forefront of the global Aids response if we want to overcome this deadly epidemic,” he said.
