Multiple champions Cardinal Otunga, Mosocho and perennial rivals Itierio renew rivalry in 15s rugby as this year’s Kisii County Secondary School Sports Association (KCSSSA) Term One Games begin at Kisii School, Nyanchwa and Kisii University today.

Cardinal Otunga are in Pool A alongside former champions and rivals Itierio, Rioma and Rianyanchabera Boys while last year’s losing finalists Nyabigena headline Pool B which also has Kisii School, Nyakegogi and Nyansakia.

In boys’ basketball, Cardinal Otunga will be seeking a third title in a row against Nduru and Tendere in Pool A while Kenyoro, Sameta and Daraja Mbili battle it out in Pool B as Kisii Sub-county champions Nyanchwa launch their campaign against Gesusu and Itierio Boys in Pool C.

Pool C has Igorera, Mariwa and Kisii School. In girls’ basketball, champions Nyabururu will start their title defence against heavyweights Kereri before facing Itibo, Itierio and Sameta Mixed in a tough Pool A while Pool B will see Ntanturago, Riosiri, Igorera, Sengera and Daraja Mbili face off. There will also be handball and hockey.

Meanwhile, national rugby 15s champions Kakamega High School have been pooled in a tough group D for the county games that start today. Edward Butala’s charges will have to content with a fierce fight from much-improved Musingu and Handow. St Peter’s Mumias are in a relatively easy group B that contains Malava and little-known Aligula.
